The radial flow thickener is a solid-liquid separation equipment based on the principle of gravity sedimentation, widely used in industries such as mining, metallurgy, and chemical engineering. It is primarily employed in processes like slurry concentration and wastewater treatment. Through physical and chemical processes, it separates solid particles from the liquid in slurry to achieve concentration and clarification. The operational principle of a radial flow thickener primarily relies on gravity sedimentation and flocculant action, with the following key steps:
Slurry Feeding & Air Discharge:
The slurry is fed into the thickener through the feed pipe, while entrained air is discharged.
Flocculant Mixing:
In the mixing chamber, the slurry is thoroughly blended with flocculants. The flocculant promotes the aggregation of fine particles into larger flocs, increasing their particle size to accelerate settling.
Sedimentation & Separation:
The mixed slurry enters the settling zone. Solids settle under gravity to form a concentrated underflow layer, while clarified liquid rises to the top as overflow.
Underflow & Overflow Discharge:
The concentrated underflow is discharged through the underflow outlet, and the clarified overflow exits via the drainage outlet, completing the solid-liquid separation process.
